guided tours

The centre also runs workshops and guided tours for groups. It works directly with groups helping them learn about sustainability in all its forms. A guided tour lasts about an hour and a half, and gives you access to a centre worker who can discuss various aspects of sustainability with you in great detail.  It includes our engaging activity, the sustainability treasure hunt and incorporates a visit to our Energy Room, packed full of interactive examples of renewable technologies. All tours are tailored to the individual needs and expectations of your group.

Workshops at the ATC are informative, participatory, stimulating and fun. In the process of expanding to include all aspects of sustainability, our interactive workshops involve participants in every step of the process, encouraging a sense of completion and achievement, as well as inspiring understanding and motivation.

Plastics recycling workshop - Crazy shapes and key rings.  11/2 hour workshop.  Collect, sort and process your plastics, learn about the energy inputs to new and recycled plastic and take back with you a real example of plastics recycling.  You will be given the opportunity to design your own unique key fob, fridge magnet, badge or drinks coaster.

Plastics recycling workshop - Notebooks galore.   11/2 hour workshop.  Collect, sort and process recyclable plastics, understand the energy inputs to new and recycled plastic and take back with you a real example of plastics recycling.  Participants are given the opportunity to design, make and take away their own booklet, backed with recycled plastic.

Footprint workshop  - 1 1/2 hour workshop.  What is a global footprint? What is your global footprint? Why does it matter? what can you do about it? This dynamic workshop answers these questions and more.

Paper recycling
workshop  - 11/2 hour workshop. Learn how to pulp, process, and colour waste paper and turn it into sheets of useable paper. Understand the processes used to recycle paper, the energy inputs and take away sheets of paper that can be used for art or presentation of project work.

Renewable energy workshop  - 1 1/2 hour workshop.  Casting an eye on daily energy use, looking at fossil fuels vs renewable energy and practical application of renewable energy models, this stimulating workshop takes a look at  solar PV, wind, water and biomass.

Wind power workshop - 11/2 hour workshop.  This very hands-on workshop takes a close look at wind power.  Participants put together working kits, giving a very direct experience of how wind power works.  This workshop includes a tour around our renewable energy room.

Food Miles - 11/2  hour workshop.  Design a high food miles meal, design a low miles one.  Depending on your key stage, play the food miles quiz - or Bingo!  A fun and lively workshop that takes a serious look at the issues involved.
